“Food is life,” says the food lover. Because eating food is an essential physiological activity man must do to survive, the term “restaurant” is very old and can be traced to Egypt. The word first appears in a record as far back as 512 BC. Then came the thermopolium that sold something eatable and got mostly for tradespeople. This served as a model for modern-day eateries. However, Paris in France is famed as the first to establish a modern-day restaurant. Arguing this is a story for another day.

To put it simply, it is usually a public space like a restaurant in Leichhardt where you sit and eat food and pay for it. While you sit (and sometimes wait), the waiter or waitress takes your order of a meal and drink and serves you accordingly.

Myth #1
It’s a bad idea to order fish on Mondays
This is entirely false. This myth has its origin in a story that eateries sold leftover fish from the preceding week. It was believed that new arrivals take time to reach the restaurant because there were no shipments of fresh seafood over the weekend till the second or third day of the new week. There are fragments of truth in that statement because most eateries at the time did not receive fresh shipments all the time. However, the theory no longer holds water. Nowadays, eateries can receive fresh seafood almost any time they need it.
Myth #2
Only a few eateries survive the first year
Brokers, real estate agencies, etc., are more likely to fail in the first year than a restaurant owner. Again, it’s more likely for a small eatery to fail than a big one. While it’s a common and tested fact that most businesses fail or struggle through a period of transition, if you have a strong business plan for your restaurant, you’ll survive the tide.
Myth #3
Putting ice in wine is a bad idea
This is another lie that has been sold to people for donkey years. Sadly even wine experts believe this myth. What’s their assertion? That melted ice alters the temperature of the wine, increases its quantity, and dilutes its failure. The awestriking part of it all is that some modern-day wines are intentionally designed to be served with ice. The bottom line is while at the restaurant, you can do anything you want with your wine! Remember, it’s your call and putting ice on your wine is totally fine.
Myth #4
To enjoy your sushi, mix it with soy & wasabi
Mixing soy and wasabi has become almost a culture in most western countries when they visit an eatery. It’s believed that doing that makes eating sushi more enjoyable. However, this is also not true. Seasoned sushi chefs have debunked this myth. Mixing soy and wasabi will only ruin your sushi’s taste, aroma, and even flavour.
