Spain received 16 million tourists (+17%) in 1Q24

Spain received 6.3 million international tourists in March, 21% more than in the same month of 2023. In the first three months of 2024 (1Q2024), the number of tourists visiting Spain increased by 17.7% year-on-year to more than 16.1 million. According to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE),

The United Kingdom was the main country of origin, with more than 1.2 million tourists and an increase of 13.3% compared to March 2023. From Germany 909,031 tourists arrived (up 28.7%) and from France 791,648 tourists (up 31.8%).

In 1Q2024, the main countries of origin were the United Kingdom (with nearly 3 million tourists and an increase of 15.1%), Germany (with almost 2.1 million and an increase of 19.5%) and France (with almost 2.0 million, up 15.7%).

The length of stay of the majority of tourists in March was four to seven nights, with almost 3.2 million and an annual increase of 28.8%. The number of visitors increased by 18.6% among those who do not stay overnight (excursionists) and by 16.7% among tourists with a longer duration of stay (more than 15 nights).
