According to the Economically Active Population Survey (EPA), prepared by the National Statistics Institute (INE), the number of employed persons increased in interannual terms by 434,700 persons in 2Q2024 and reached 21,684,700. The quarterly variation rate was 2.05%. Employment rose in 2Q2024 in all sectors: Services (304,000 more); Industry (63,400); Construction (61,100); and Agriculture (6,100). The quarterly variation rate of employment in seasonally adjusted terms was 0.37%.
Unemployment fell by 222,600 in 2Q2024, to 2,755,300 unemployed. However, in seasonally adjusted terms, unemployment increased by 1.15%. Over the last 12 months, unemployment decreased by 52,900 people.
Meanwhile, the unemployment rate stood at 11.27% in 2Q2024, 1.02 points lower than in the previous quarter. The analysts’ consensus expected a reading of 11.8%.
Finally, the number of active persons rose by 212,100 in 2Q2024 to 24,440,000. Over the last year, the number of active people increased by 373,300.
